Placenta Shampoo???

Yes, that's right folks. You heard me right. I was at Walmart this evening looking for shampoo, when I stumbled upon this little gem.

It's actually hard to miss. I don't know why I never noticed it before, unless it's a newer product. It's not a small bottle. It's a rather large, yellow bottle. I did a double take and then rubbed my eyes a few times to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. I then whipped out my cell phone to snap a picture as proof. (I wonder if people found it odd that I was taking pictures of a shampoo bottle.) I am wishing now that I would have picked up the bottle and read the back to see just what kind of placenta is used. After doing some research on the internet, all I could find were debates about whether it was plant placenta (yes, evidently plants technically do have a placenta, oddly enough) or animal placenta. Either way, I find it more than a little disturbing to see a big ol' bottle of placenta jumping out at me in the shampoo isle. Very, very strange indeed.

2009 Residency Retreat

I decided I better post a few pictures from our residency retreat at Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago. We had lots of fun. I wish I'd gotten more pictures, but it's hard to take pictures when your in the water. The hotel we stayed at was lots of fun. The rooms were big, but not so nice. But the rest of the hotel made up for it. They had a fun little water park, which consisted of fountains, a lazy river, several hot tubs, several kiddie pools, and several larger pools to swim in. It was very kid friendly and we all had fun.

This was the view from our balcony. Jacob LOVED standing out there and looking down at the water. If we were inside, this is where he could be found.

It was nice staying so close to the beach. We could go out when we wanted and when it got to hot, we just walked back to our room. So the kids got lots of time in the sand. Lizzie even got brave enough to walk out to the water. But as soon as a wave would come in, she ran for dry land as fast as she could. It was pretty funny to watch.

Again, Jacob, not a fan of the water. So, he spent all his time digging in the sand. I spent my time sitting in the shade of my umbrella. :) When I took these pictures, Mike was over playing volleyball with the other residence. I would have watched, but I knew the kids would just be running after the ball and would probably end up being trampled or something. So, I opted to just let them play elsewhere on the beach.
I found Mike Jacob eating pudding on the balcony one morning. I thought it was cute.

So there ya go. Just a few pictures from our 3 day retreat to the beach. We decided though, that we still like Wilmington beach better.
The second day we were there, I had to go buy some swim bottoms for my swim top. I decided to try and find some plain black board shorts. The first place we went to didn't care maternity sizes or plus sizes. The tiny little, petite woman who came to help me says to me, "ya, we don't carry the larger sizes". Emphasis the "larger". Thanks lady! I hate you. The next place we went to I found something right away. The guy who helped me, picked out a medium size and says, "this should fit". I looked at him kinda skeptically and said, "um, I don't know. I'm usually a large." He looked and me again and said, "You don't look like a large. Why don't you go try them on." So I did. And they fit perfectly. If I wasn't already married and he wasn't obviously gay, I would totally marry him!! Instead I ended up buying a few other things from him as well. :)
Good times I tell ya. Good times.

Is it hereditary??

My dad is an ice cruncher, I'm an ice cruncher and my children are ice crunchers. The kids are constantly bringing me cups and asking for ice. Then they sit happily and crunch away. They love it. I don't really understand why we like it so much. I'm not as much of an ice cruncher these days because of my super sensitive teeth, but the temptation is still there. I don't know what it is. As soon as it's in my mouth, I just HAVE to crunch. Jacob is the same way with hard candies and suckers. He can't just suck on them, he has to crunch them.

I especially love ice that has been crushed or shaved. I have always loved snow cones and shaved ice. Just thinking about it right now, makes me want to go get a snow cone machine and make some snow cones. Ahhhh...I think I just might.

Manners

My kids are very good at saying please. At least Jacob is. And Lizzie is starting to say it too. But I always wonder why I can't get them to say "please". Today it finally dawned on me. Yes I am a little slow. But I came to the realization that children really do learn by example. For example, I rarely say please to my kids when I want them to do something. Typically I just bark orders. So, when my kids want something, they bark orders at me. I've fallen into the expectation that they should "do as I say, not as I do". This is a typical conversation between Jacob and I:

Jacob: Mommy, chocolate milk!!!

Me: Can you say, "chocolate milk, please"?

Jacob: Chocolate milk please.

But for some reason, that reminder never sticks. Next time he wants or needs something, he demands it. Kind of like when I tell him to pick up his toys, or put on his shoes.

On the flip side, he is very quick to say "thank you" when I give him something, and I realized it is because I always say "thank you" to him whenever he hands me something or does something. He is also always telling Lizzie "good job", because that's something I say to him on a regular basis.

This morning both kids wanted bananas for breakfast so I got them both one. I gave Jacob his first and he promptly said "thank you", then I handed Lizzie her banana and I got a cute little "kyou". I thought I heard her say it before, but wasn't quite sure. I am sure she was following Jacobs example in saying thank you. It was very cute. But it just dawned on me this morning that they do what I do, down to the little details. It also dawned on me that I need to work on MY manners. lol. So, I guess I will be working on saying "Please" to my children.

Sometime I have to remind myself that they are really just older spirits in little bodies and they deserve respect. So, I should be using my manners with them anyways. Nobody likes having orders barked at them or being yelled at. Definitely gives a person something to think about.

Oh the things I never took into consideration.

Like the fact that my family practice doc would be handling all my ob issues. Which, is all fine and dandy, cause they seem to have a lot of experience in the area. Mike has only been in residency for 3 months and he's already delivered several babies. But then, we were assigned to a doc who I know and see in social settings on a regular basis. He, like Mike, is an intern. All the interns are friends and get together regularly. So...when I saw the name of the person they had switched us to, I was a little weirded out. He's a nice guy and all, and I don't mind him being the kids doc but I have issues with someone I see in social settings being my "down there doctor". Thankfully, I was able to switch to a doctor I don't know. Am I the only one who would find that situation weird?

Hello, Wrong #

I started telling this story on my facebook wall, but it ended up being way to long. So I decided to post the story on here. It's just easier that way. :)

Okay, so last night about 8:30pm, I am getting my kids settled into bed when the phone rings. I answer and get a automated voice saying, "telephone # 910-blah, blah, blah, sent you a mobile to land line text message. To hear your message press one"

Well, I've gotten one of these messages before from a different # and it turned out to be a wrong #. I knew that I was going to have the option to reply to the message, so waited and listened to the message, which wasn't a complete message, I think it said, "what..." then it disconnected. Well, I decided to just ignore it and went back to check on the kids. 2 seconds later the phone rings again. So I answer it and get the same automated voice saying that so and so sent me a message, only this time the message said, "he's in the shower". So I send a message back, "you've got the wrong #. Please stop calling". Then a few minutes later I get another message from her saying, "WELL!!" Like she didn't believe that she got the wrong # and thought the person she was calling was just being rude or something. I thought that would be the end of it, but then about 5 minutes later I got another message telling me that "he is in the shower". I ignore it and then she calls again with the same message. So at this point I'm just ticked off, cause I'm trying to get my kids to sleep and the phone keeps ringing.

So I call the # on the caller ID and a woman picks up. And this is the conversation that follows:

Me: I keep getting calls from this # and I'd like to know who this is. (silence...) HELLO?

Lady: Uh...ya, um. I have the wrong # in my phone.

Me: Okay. Please don't call again.

I hang up. 15 minutes later she calls AGAIN. With the same message, "he's in the shower".
AAAAAAAH. So I calmly send a message back, "you've still got the wrong #". She didn't call back and I thought that was going to be the end. But no. 6:15 AM. The phone rings and I knew who it was going to be before I even looked at the caller ID. And guess what. SAME MESSAGE!! At this point I'm so ticked off I immediately call the # back and I get her voice mail. So, I just had to yell at her on her voice mail. And I mean I yelled. I said, "LOOK IF YOU CALL AND WAKE UP MY KIDS ONE MORE TIME, I'M REALLY GONNA BE TICKED OFF AND YOU WILL REGRET IT. DON'T CALL AGAIN!!!!!" Deeeep breaths...

After I hung up and calmed down, I got to thinking. How long of a shower is this guy gonna TAKE??

The End.
